Image loses transparency when inserted as a drawing
1
An image that was set to be transparent loses the transparency and reverts to an opaque image when moved on the "insert drawing" pop-up screen. I was on step 6/7 of creating a watermark in Jo'sHow to Add a Text Box to an Image in Google Docs explanation. (None of the free online apps to add watermarks to PDF worked. They said "document failed to process", so I gave up on that route).
I figured out the resolution while posting this question to the community: when I selected Mac OS (Safari) I realized that I wasn't using Chrome. Opening the Google Doc in Chrome, I was able to move the image and resize at will and it didn't lose its transparency. So that's the solution: use the Chrome browser if you can.
I also found sizing the text and image for a full-page watermark to be a bit of a nightmare. The trick for this, I discovered, was to get the image to be the right size on the page first, set the transparency and copy it. Paste it into the drawing and then
don'tresize it again, even if it appears too small. Paste the text box (or create the text box) overtop and resize it to overlap with the image exactly how you'd like it to fit in relation to the image. You may have to change the font size of your text compared to what it is in the rest of the document. Don't worry, it will be the same size as the rest of your document's text at the end.
When you save and close the drawing, the entirety may appear too small on the page. Re-size the drawing box without double-clicking or opening it again, just click and drag the border of the drawing to the size that the image was originally. Ta-da! Your image will be the right size and proportion, and the text will be the right size.
